Analysis Of What Happens

The opening of the film takes place at a rather isolated train station. The only person there is Kyle Pratt (Jodie Foster) who is sitting on one of the benches waiting for her fioncee to arrive.

We find out that Kyle isnt waiting for the train when the train arrives and the doors open she doesn't get on.

The atmosphere at the train station is rather quiet, which is the typical atmosphere of a thriller opening.

A few times during the opening 3 minutes of the film the camera zooms in to Kyle's face so we can see how she is feeling by her facial expressions. Most of the time she looks anxious and worried. If the train station was busy and not as quiet than perhaps she wouldn't feel that way.

The only sound you can hear is the trains which are constantly passing by.

When she goes into the room at the train station it is silent the only sound the audience can hear is the sound of her footsteps.
